The Perils of Thinking Like an Individual - Duncan Watts - Harvard Business Review: ""Corporations are people, my friend." — Mitt Romney" Mitt Romney was recently ridiculed for defending low corporate tax rates with the argument that corporations should be viewed as people too. The statement came across as insensitive at a time when U.S. corporations are sitting on record profits and many ordinary people are struggling. But in using the language of individualism to talk about abstract collective entities like corporations, Romney's gaffe was pretty representative of how we reason about social and economic problems.
